Obituary of Maurice Spriggs
Please share a memory of Maurice to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Maurice Alvin Spriggs was born June 26th, 1945 in Brooklyn, NY, to the late Bonita Dismond. Our beloved father, also known to many as "Moe," was called home to rest on Saturday, December 17th, 2016 at the South Nassau Community Hospital in Oceanside, New York. Maurice was raised by his late Uncle James and Aunt Gladys Currie, along with his older brother, Theodore Spriggs.
Maurice received his education in the Public School System of New York City and graduated from John Adams High School. Thereafter, he enlisted into the United States Army. Maurice retired after twenty-eight (28) years of employment with Jamaica Ash of Westbury, New York.
Maurice had the joy of having six (6) beautiful children, in addition his adopted daughter and he was a father figure to three (3) whom he had seen as his own. Moe loved life and he lived it to the fullest! As Frank Sinatra once sang, "My Way…," that's how he lived his life, always with a bright warm smile that could calm any storm! Moe had a great love for sports, but his passion was golfing and bowling. Not only did he love sports, Maurice loved people! Moe was a mentor to many in his community and always gave a helping hand to those in need.
Maurice's companion of seventeen (17) years Luvine Martin is a true soldier; she stood by him until his untimely departure. Moe loved Luvine's southern cooking, taking family trips, but most importantly, he loved her heartfelt ways.
He leaves to cherish in his memory, companion: Luvine Martin; brother: Theodore Spriggs (NC); children – five (5) daughters: Yvette (Clarence), Cynthia (MO), Dawn, Lisa (Jeffery), Juanita (GA) and his only son Lyle (Tawana); adopted daughter: Rana; father figure to: Malik, Angela (SC) and Charles (CT); nine (9) grandchildren; one (1) great-grandchild and a host of nephew s, nieces, cousins and friends. Maurice Alvin Spriggs was loved by all who encountered him and he will be dearly missed!
