Obituary of Tavia Hickman
Please share a memory of Tavia to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Tavia Novella Hickman was born on January 30, 1939 to the late Rev. Arthur and Willie Mae Williams.
Tavia joined the Adams Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church in Kings Mountain, N.C. Her father was the pastor. She served and attended her entire childhood.
She began her education at Gold Mine Elementary and later Compact High School, where she graduated two years early as salutatorian in 1955. After graduating she attended HBCU Barber Scotia College in Concord, N.C., in pursuit of a teaching career.
In search of a brighter future she relocated to Hempstead, NY. Her life was forever changed when her cousin David Robinson introduced her to Tommie L. Hickman, Jr. He was also a native of Kings Mountain although they never met. From that moment on they never left each other's side. They had found the truest of loves.
They were married on August 31, 1963. This union was blessed with two children. A daughter, Terrie Lynn and son Todd. She shined the brightest as wife and mother. Her love of music, holiday, and togetherness kept our home filled with joy and laughter. Her smile warmed every heart. Her kindness made all feel welcome.
Tavia was proceeded in death by her brothers Arthur Williams Jr., Sam Williams and sisters Frankie Lewis and Virginia Williams.
She leaves to cherish her memory her devoted husband Tommie, her two children Terrie Lynn and Todd. Granddaughter, Tylese. Beloved nephew, Victor Hickman (Diane) of Bowie, MD. As well as a host of cherished nieces, nephews and other relatives and dear friends.
