Obituary of Laura Lee Smith
Laura Lee Fisher-Smith, 54 years of age, passed away on Thursday, August 23, 2018 at Northwell University Hospital in Manhasset, New York. Laura, lovingly called Choo-Choo by friends and family, and Laayah (Lah-aw-yah), her Hebrew name, by her husband Ari, was born May 31, 1964 at Saint Albans Naval Hospital in Queens, New York to the late Laura E. Miller-Fisher and Edward T. Fisher. She was their only child. Laura attended Copiague High School in Copiague, New York and graduated in 1982.
Laura was united in holy matrimony to Leon (Ari) J. Smith on April 25, 2000 in Amityville, New York. They built a life together centered around the Black Hebrew Israelite religion and were forever lovingly dedicated to Yah, one another, and their family. First and foremost, Laura enjoyed studying and reading her scriptures.
Laura was an avid nature lover and National Geographic collector. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, and playing Words with Friends with Aunt Linda. And she loved watching movies with her beloved daughter, Laureen. Her warmth and honest no judgment zone personality was admired by all who knew and loved her.
Although Laura suffered a long and arduous illness, she never complained, not once. She was never negative and Laura was always grateful for the life she was given. She was “Red Mom” to her many nieces and nephews and set an exemplary example of kindness and intelligence for them to follow. She loved them all very dearly and they in turn, loved her right back, so very much. Her special sneeze and jolly laugh will be sorely missed by us all, along with her jokes and of course, her saucy sarcasm.
Laura leaves to cherish loving memories: her steadfast and devoted husband, Leon J. Smith, her beloved only child, Laureen Elizabeth Bellamy, cousins who are more like sisters, Linda Stoddard, Carolyn Watson, and Crystal Adams, her brother-in-law, Michael Stoddard, Sr., her adored nieces and nephew, Jessica Carthon, Brandi Evans, and Michael Stoddard, Jr., along with a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, family members and friends.
