Mr. James Lacy, my former boss was a man of piece whom I never saw loose his temper. I have cherished his wisdom and counseling that served to enhance my clinical skills. when I had all my requirement met to submit my documentation to NYS for leisure My Lacy wrote an excellent letter of recommendation to The New York State Office Of the Profession even though I had moved on to another position with another agency. This was an important step for my career in my chosen vocation. He and his wife Modana were supportive to me and good friends while I resided on Eastern Long Island. It is not difficult for me to say that I knew Mr. Lacy as a man of great integrity, honesty and grace. He is sincerely missed as a man of action for the betterment of humanity.

I met Mr and Mrs Lacy 3 years ago when I worked at the John Theurer Cancer Center as a medical assistant; I would go to his chair to check his blood pressure every few minutes when he came in for treatment. He was the most loving, kind, humble person you will ever meet. After some time he and Mrs. Lacy became my favorite people to see! I would go over to say hello sometimes just to speak to them because sometimes my day got hectic and stressful; believe it or not he would encourage me and I always walked away so uplifted and refueled with energy after speaking to him. He was obviously a very Godly man without question; you felt God’s love with every encounter you had with him and his sweet wife.
He never complained about life, and he was never bitter or angry, even though those are usual behaviors that I saw In many patients who were going through similar situations. He was the opposite of that; he was always so happy and energetic.
It is not everyday that you meet great people and I was so privileged to have met him. I told him and Mrs. Lacy that I hope one day I can find a husband that will love me the way he loved Mrs. Lacy; it's like they were still going through their honeymoon period! I have no question where his soul has gone due to the person that he was and I am sure he is at peace.
Mr. Lacy you have left such a great legacy behind for us to follow and you will be greatly missed.

If I....
If I cook for you,
It’s because Dad shared the recipe
If I give you a ride,
It's only because he taught me to drive.
If I show restraint
It’s because I witnessed his grace under pressure
If I'm passionate
It's because he encouraged, and supported my ambitions
If I Demonstrate chivalry
It's because showed me how to treat a woman for 16 years
If I keep a promise
It's because "You're right for me and I'm right for you" was more walk than talk
If I'm selfless
It's because i watched Dad make a habit of putting those in need first
If you see me Persevere
It's because I watched him fight to the end, with hope in his heart
If I actively listen to you
It's because Dad consistently made space to hear me out
If I could see him again
I'd tell dad how he changed my life immeasurably
If I could remember to do any of these things
Maybe I could be half the man he was.

Jim Lacy was a gentle giant both in his professional life, and in the community that he served so fervently. His devotion to the social services industry was impactful throughout his life including at Leadership Training Institute. It was not only his competence and professionalism that stood out, but his gentle demeanor, wisdom and authentic compassion that distinguished him from his peers. It is that desire to help and mentor that led him to Co-found his organization with his wife, Madonna Cole-Lacy, that helped prepare and empower youth as they transitioned to young adulthood and college. His presence and his sage council will be sorely missed. May your golden baritone voice continue to resonate in our hearts forevermore.

The Garard family would like to extend our most sincere condolences to the Lacy family. Mr. Lacy was a warm, well-spoken, kindhearted, and gentle leader, mentor, counselor, and friend. We shared may memories during dinners, soirees, panel lectures, and workshops as members of Your Time For Creative Empowerment for the past six years. Our friendship extended to times of worship, where we praised and honored God together. Through the organization, each of our children has been inspired, motivated, and blessed through scholarship, mentoring, and academic support. We are thankful for his leadership and are inspired by the work he has done in our lives and the lives many. We hold you close to our hearts in thoughts and prayers.
With Love, The Garard Family

It was a very difficult day when Madona Lacy my dear aunt, informed us about the passing of the love of her life Uncle Jim. Uncle Jim was a man that we have come to truly love, respect and admire. When I told my daughter about his passing, she was very emotional, and said "Uncle Jim was truly a genuine man, I loved him and I will miss him". As a family we extend our sincere condolences to the entire family. We remember all the great times we spent together in Long Island NY and Laurel, MD.
Some mornings, Uncle Jim will wake us up with the sounds of his guitar and singing, "My time his come".
Uncle Jim was a gentle, caring, firm and loving man, always giving his love, time and attention to other. I will always be grateful to him for all the care and love he gave to my grandaunt Mama Evelyn Cole. I remember the last time I spoke with him, two day before he left us, he never complained about anything that he was going through, instead he encouraged me to stay positive. "What a man". I was blessed having you in my life Uncle Jim. May Jehovah bless your entire family and those who dearly love you. You will be missed.
