Obituary of Vurnetta Mazyck
Vurnetta (Foxworth) Mazyck was born on May 31, 1930 in Moncks Corner, SC to Quincy and Zella Foxworth. Their family also included her siblings Edward, Annie Mae, and Emma Lou. She accepted the Lord Jesus Christ at an early age at Greater St. James AME Church and began a lifetime of Christian service.
On May 8, 1948, Vurnetta married Marvin Mazyck. They were blessed with three sons, Stanley, Melvin and Marshall. After many years living in the low country of South Carolina, they relocated to Freeport, NY. Vurnetta soon joined Bethel AME Church and served for many years as a member of the Stewardess Board. While caring for her family, she became a Nurse’s Assistant for over 20 years.
Vurnetta Mazyck was proceeded in death by her parents, her husband Marvin, her siblings and her grandson Kendell Haynes. She leaves behind to mourn, her sons Stanley (Mary), Melvin Johnny (Kim), Marshall (Alea); grandchildren Martin (Uma), John, Tonya (Sylvester), Jamal (Vincent), Alyse, and great-grandchildren Kaavya, Adan, Jada, Justin and Jayden, along with a large host of nieces, nephews, cousins, lifetime friends, neighbors and Bethel AME family.
Vurnetta will be remembered as someone whose faith was evident in every aspect of her life. She overcame and rebounded so many times throughout her long life. On January 17, 2021, God said “Job well done” and called her home. She will be missed by all but leaves a lasting legacy of love and wonderful memories.
